Buying Chanel...love it or can't afford Hermes
There is an interesting thread in the Purse Forum debating this topic of "Buying Chanel...love it or can't afford Hermes?"
I find it amusing that the person who started this thread EVER thought that buying Chanel (after acquring a few Hermes) is 'going down'? It's like an insult to people like me who do not own a single piece of Hermes by the way. And I do not think that I will be buying any Hermes for some time or till I can really appreciate the quality or design so to speak.
And the lady who started this thread got slammed by a few forumers in the beginning of the thread. I count myself lucky that I do not really appreciate Hermes yet though it is like a norm for Chanel lovers to move on to Hermes as though it's like achieving the next level. Some avid Chanel collectors justified that it's not a matter of them not being able to afford a Hermes piece a most of them own at least 20-30 Chanels at any point of time. So it's unlikely that they cannot afford Hermes. It's a matter of personal choice. Just like why some people do not like LVs, or do not like Chanels.
A girlfriend asked me why I did not use the funds for 2 Chanels to get Hermes Kelly instead? She argued that the quality of leather, workmanship , so on is of superior quality and Chanel's quality is going downhill. Yes I know. But for the price of each Hermes piece, they better be superior and nothing less than that! Isnt't it? I still love the femanine look of Chanel pieces. Hermes is just too plain looking for me.
Most important reason is, Hermes is not me - at least for now. I'm a casual girl by nature and it takes really important occasions for me to dress up to the nines. I work from home and stay at home most of the time. And most important of all, I'm no tai-tai...when on earth will I have a chance to carry such an expensive bag? Haha, as for now, I really do prefer to use the funds for 2 classic Chanels and perhaps add a few fun season items here and there. I prefer variety and details in my bags. I'm still not quite done with flaps and CC's...so it'll really be while before I decide if I'm heading towards the Orange...or I may not even get one cos the price will become crazier by then.
Okay but if you ask me if I will buy LV again now that I'm into the Chanel fanatic world. I'll say nobut thats only because will still rather hold the funds for more classic pieces be it Chanel or other brands. Now I only buy bags that hold their value so that I can pass on to my girl :-).
And so, it makes me wonder some ladies out there who own a piece from Hermes - Is it really because they love the bag so much or because its a sign of status (or some prefer to call it style). Will you pay for a Hermes?

P/S: As many Hermes fans prefers a Birkin, I tend to lean towards a Kelly or a Lindy more as I feel that Birkin really looks like a briefcase to me.
I have a hunch that my first Hermes will be a Lindy :P
Coming soon.
I'm a good girl...am practising a one in one out theory here. Bijoux bijoux bijoux....love.
after this and 2 more and I'm quite done :P

Love the vintage take on this bag. somewhat retro chic . And this grey is to-die-for! I lack a grey bag in my wardrobe! I'll love to have this....$$$ |

| this comes in a black with gold harware version. I am seriously thinking of the black version instead of a GST which is really common. Will have to see the real thing to be convinced |

I want a Red bag!
I am so looking for a red bag to add to my collection (though I already have a Jasmin in Epi leather) but not any kind of red. These are top of my lists, but not easy to find. (and I'm still on a bag ban)
